[ After his fight with Castiel, Jack is in a bad place. The temple already unsettled him and what he felt there, what he did out of instinct, weighs on him. He made Castiel fear him more and that's something that always upsets him. Castiel never used to be afraid of him, he always accepted him. Didn't he? Isn't that the truth? He told Castiel in their fight that he was sure, but the longer he drove away, the more it settled into his head. He knows he'll only upset Rowena if she sees him in this state and he could hide away and lick his wounds, but he needs reassurance.
He uses his little touch of Sam sense to find him and he's relieved he's in his room because he doesn't want to break down in a public place. Jack doesn't get emotional like this on the outside very often, he's usually a self-contained person, but he's on the verge of tears already when he shows up on Sam's door and knocks a little frantically. At least Sam knows who he is, he doesn't know what he would do if he didn't. It doesn't matter that they're a little out of time with each other, although that puts him in a bad position with the Mary of it all, but right now he needs someone who knows him. Who remembers where this all began.
Jack and Castiel have had their struggles from the moment they met here, he's been deeply concerned with Castiel's mental health and sort of hovered over him anxiously whenever he could. Thus becoming something of a burden to someone who doesn't know him, so maybe it was inevitable that the two of them would snap eventually.
In true Jack form, he's not angry, he's uncontrollably sad. Broken a little, hurting. He looks like it too when Sam opens the door, like he's on the verge of coming out of his skin from it.]
